Carbon Neutral Policy Earthcare is committed to offering our landscaping services in
an environmentally sustainable way. Since commercial landscaping requires fossil fuels to operate,
we donate a portion of our proceeds to a non-profit, Trees for the Future, which plants trees in tropical
regions. One tree in the tropics captures approximately 50 lbs of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
each year. Over the course of a 40 year lifespan, each tree captures 1 ton of carbon dioxide, thereby reducing the amount
of greenhouse gasses.
Trees for the Future planting projects are done in collaboration with local communities,
providing essential jobs and helping to reverse environmental degradation. Trees stabilize soils and provide natural
habitat for forest plants and animals. More information is available at: www.Treesftf.org. Did you know? Synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are made from petro-chemicals
and require a significant amount of energy to produce. By using organic products, you utilize local resources and prevent
carbon from being released into the atmosphere.Your lawn can also be a very
effective carbon sink. According to a study conducted by NASA, caring for your lawn properly with modest
amounts of fertilizer and returning lawn clippings to your soil (rather than bagging them) can stimulate grass growth and
capture carbon in the form of soil organic matter. The longer mowing height of 3.5" that Earthcare recommends will
also feed this cycle. You can read more about capturing carbon in your lawn by reading the NASA article here.
